Happy New Year! 2022 is upon us. What will it bring to you? Will it be a year filled with endless potential or will it be just another year?
The great news is that you get to decide what kind of year it is going to be for you.
The direction of 2022 will be determined by three key ingredients to starting your year off right.
A positive mindset
The first thing that many of us need to do in 2022, is to deal with our negative self-talk.
Have you ever made a mistake and said something like,”I am so stupid!”?
My son had that moment this morning. He overslept. I realized what time it was and popped my head in his room, and said, “Hey bud, you are going to be late for school if you don’t get moving.” He jumped out of bed startled, growled, and said, ”I’m stupid! I turned my alarm off and went back to bed!”
He started throwing his clothes on for school and headed to the bathroom to get ready. I stopped him and said, “I need you to take a minute. You are not stupid. You are a little behind, but if you are late, then you are late. It is not the end of the world. Take a breath. You are smart and capable. Now go get ready.”
My son is learning the same lessons that I am, that I cannot beat myself up over mistakes, and that I need to be my biggest cheerleader.
There is plenty of negativity in the world to remind us of what we are not and what we should be afraid of. None of this is true. We all are smart and capable. We are all stronger than we think we are.
We just need to remind ourselves in the moments of attack that we are made with purpose, that we are trying to accomplish something big, and that we have what it takes to get it done.
When you come face to face with an obstacle or a setback in 2022, take a breath and remind yourself: I have a purpose, I am trying to accomplish something big, and I am capable of accomplishing it.
Solution oriented thinking
When your mind is on the right track, solutions are easier to find.
Solutions require creativity and creativity requires clear thinking. Creativity seldom responds well to pressure.
This may not seem fair because most solutions are needed when the pressure is on. Creativity demands clear mental space. The only way to find that space is to compartmentalize your emotions about your setbacks and obstacles.
Yes, you are allowed to feel what you need to feel…but at some point, you need to draw the line on how long your emotions are going to control your narrative.
Compartmentalizing allows you to look at your issues from a different perspective. It allows you to see it from different dimensions and to see the solution that is hidden inside of the problem.
In every problem, there is an opportunity. We just have to clear our emotions and find it.
Self-motivation
Too many people fail because they depend on other people to provide motivation for them.
The people who make this mistake typically do not believe in themselves nor do they believe in the mission that they are on.
Many do not invest in themselves by pursuing coaching, attending events, or reading books that will help them improve their lives.
Here is the banner headline for 2022: This is your life. No one else is going to live it for you. The sooner that we realize this, the better.
Life is a journey and our chief goal on this journey should be to become the best version of ourselves each and every day. That is called intrinsic motivation, the motivation to improve oneself.
Intrinsic motivation drives all other motivation. You get one life. Only one. Why should we need outside influences for us to live it?
2022 has the potential to be the best year of your life. You get to decide if it will or not. It will come with challenges and setbacks. It will come with disappointments.
Regardless of what you face this year, if you can keep a positive mental attitude, if you can be creative about solving problems, and you can motivate yourself, then you will find that 2022 will be the best year ever…and we hope that it is for you. We’re rooting for you.
If you have any questions about your sales or your business, we would love to hear from you. To us, there is simply no such thing as a dumb question. We may have the answer for you, but if we do not we will find it with you.
